GEODE, an accredited sheep breeding organization, has just set up a site dedicated to the evaluation of its selection schemes. In the service, GEODE manages 13 sheep breeds, and it provides important logistic capacities.

The « Beignet » site is located at Roussines, in the center of France, near Argenton-sur-Creuse at 8 kilometers of the A20 highway.

The buildings cover an area of 3500 m2, surrounded by 30 ha of grasslands. Main buildings have different areas, including automatic sorting complex (Clipex), 2 quarantine areas (DDCSPP approved) equipped with ventilation and cooling device and completed by 2 loading docks.

Two areas are reserved for the breeding of rams, and another is used for the presentation of animals to the buyers, these 2 spaces are in perfect conformity with the current sanitary standards.

The individual breeder evaluation system is the basis for the genetic improvement of the 13 sheep breeds under management.

GEODE's scientific projects are oriented towards research of new genetic traits, with a view of sustainable agriculture that respects animal welfare. For example, the grasslands of the Roussines estate could be used to demonstrate genetic resistance to parasitism.

Since its creation, the GEODE cooperative has distinguished itself in the commercialization of sheep breeding stock. In the Roussines site, it is possible to present buyers with animals of different breeds, kept on grass to facilitate their introduction into farms. The capacity to receive animals allows us to offer breeders batches of homogeneous females with the best health guarantees.

The Roussines site will also be a privileged place for the organization of sales of exit station, as well as the organization of gatherings of reproducers, on request, for organizations of producers.

Exporting sheep breeding stock to near or far destinations has become one of GEODE's specific activities. The Roussines logistics platform is located approximately 40 km from Châteauroux freight airport – Déols. The cargo aircraft transport is now added to the services offered by the GEODE team of Roussines site.
